When You Arrive

Badge Collection and Check-In

  • When: Sunday from 14:00-17:30, Monday from 07:30 (TBC), Tuesday-Friday from 08:00
  • Where: Registration Desk, Boardwalk Gallery

You need to wear your conference name badge and lanyard at all times when you're at the conference venue. You can collect your badge at our check-in desk from Sunday afternoon onwards.

Newcomer's Welcoming Session

  • When: Sunday 16:00
  • Where: Tasman A Room, Wrest Point Convention Center

Come and discover the history of linux.conf.au from seasoned attendees. This session is full of wisdom and advice for newcomers and regular attendees, and is a great opportunity to meet other attendees from the moment you arrive in Hobart.

Presentations and Tutorials

Our presentation and tutorial days include breaks for morning tea, afternoon tea, and lunch. linux.conf.au will be providing catering for all three of these breaks.

Keynotes

  • When: Tuesday–Friday 9:00
  • Where: Plenary Hall, Wrest Point Convention Centre

linux.conf.au keynotes are delivered by notable presenters from the world of Free and Open Source software. This year, our keynote presenters will each explore the future of Open Source in depth.

We'll be announcing our very exciting list of keynote presenters in the coming months.

Miniconfs

  • When: Monday–Tuesday 10:40–17:20
  • Where: Wrest Point Convention Centre

Miniconfs are special-interest streams, run by members of the community, independently of the linux.conf.au programme committee. Each miniconf explores an area of Free and Open Source technology, going into more depth on that topic than we can fit in the main programme.

Selected Presentations

  • When: Wednesday–Friday 10:40–17:20
  • Where: Wrest Point Convention Centre

linux.conf.au's selected presentations cover the entire Free and Open Source technology ecosystem, and are presented directly by people who shape those projects and topics. This year, our selected presentations will look at the Future of Open Source.

Our selected presentations will be announced in September 2016.

Conference Opening and Close

  • When: Monday 9:20, Friday 17:00
  • Where: Plenary Hall, Wrest Point Convention Centre

The book-end sessions to our conference give us all an opportunity to thank everyone who's contributed to the conference, and to the Free and Open Source Software community in Australia and New Zealand.

Social Events

Opening Reception & Networking Breakfast (PDNS)

  • When: Monday 7:30–9:00
  • Who: Professional and Fairy Penguin ticket holders, Speakers from selected presentations, Miniconf organisers
  • Where: Derwent Room, Wrest Point

A networking breakfast for our professional delegates and speakers. This is a great opportunity to build build new connections before the conference properly kicks off.

Speakers Dinner

  • When: Tuesday 17:30-22:30
  • Who: Speakers from selected presentations and keynotes, miniconf organisers, and ticket holders
  • Where: Frogmore Creek

Our way of saying thank you for the excellent contributions made by our speakers and miniconf organisers. Without them, the conference could not be of the high standard our attendees have come to know and love.

Penguin Dinner

  • When: Wednesday 18:00
  • Who: Penguin Dinner ticket holders
  • Where: Wrest Point Gardens

This year, linux.conf.au's signature social event is a barbecue picnic in Wrest Point's expansive waterfront gardens. Enjoy Hobart's long, lingering summer evenings, with great Tasmanian food, soft drinks, wine, and craft beer.

One complimentary Penguin Dinner ticket is included with Professional, Speaker, Miniconf Organiser, and Fairy Penguin Sponsor conference tickets.

Other Events

Lightning Talks

  • When: Friday 15:40
  • Where: Plenary Hall, Wrest Point Convention Centre

Lightning talks are 3-minute presentations on a topic of the presenter's choosing. Details on how to sign up to present a lightning talk will be available during the conference.

Linux Australia Annual General Meeting

  • When: 17:30
